Clinical Update: Head Injuries

View VISION 2030 our new strategy to power the future of motorsport

Head injury vigilance still matters.

Despite advances in vehicle safety, head injuries remain a regular consideration in motorsport incidents. Symptoms may be subtle initially and can evolve over time. Continue to take a cautious approach where there has been a head impact, rapid deceleration, or concerning mechanism. Early documentation, clear advice to competitors, and a low threshold for reassessment or escalation remain key.

Reassurance should never replace observation. When in doubt, pause, reassess, and seek further input.

Remember, concussion is a traumatic brain injury.

  • Incident Report Form
  • Patient Report Form – to be returned to medicalreport@motorsportuk.org
  • Picture(s) of helmet – can be returned via the Motorsport UK Steward (where appointed) or sent with the PRF to the above email address.
