Events on the Public Highway

The Motor Vehicles (Competitions and Trials) Regulations 1969 (amended) require that any motoring event utilising the Public Highway is subject to Authorisation under the legislation.

The Department for Transport has authorised Motorsport UK to undertake Authorisations in England and Wales. This is handled by Motorsport UK’s Competition Authorisation Office (CAO).

In Scotland this function is carried out by the Royal Scottish Automobile Club.

Digital mapping

In addition to the traditional tracings of routes submitted for Route Authorisation, electronic versions of event routes created on digital mapping software can now be emailed to the Motorsport UK Competition Authorisation Office (CAO) as part of the Route Authorisation process.

For further details, please contact the CAO on 01753 765075 or cao@motorsportuk.org
