The FIA Karting Academy Trophy celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2020 and throughout the last decade, has established itself as a popular proving ground for the best young drivers from around the world, with Motorsport UK and staunch supporter throughout the years.

Formed in 2010, the FIA Karting Academy Trophy each year brings together the best 51 drivers, aged 12 to 14, from motorsport governing bodies around the world. The international formula provides the perfect playing field for all drivers as the chassis, engines and tyres are identical, with participants drawing their equipment for every race weekend, and with the CIK-FIA organising the championship with the events visiting renowned karting circuits and attracting a strong following and media coverage.

Since the beginning, drivers have used the cost-effective championship as a stepping-stone for future exploits, as young drivers immerse themselves in the development on and off the track. Several drivers who have participated in the FIA Karting Academy Trophy have gone on to greatness, with the likes of Formula 1 drivers Charles Leclerc,  Esteban Ocon, and Britain’s George Russell all series alumni.

In 2020, the UK representative Theo Micouris excelled, with the British driver finishing a hard-fought second in the overall standings. Motorsport UK will continue to support the Academy Trophy as it continues to create opportunities for young talent to shine on the world stage.
