Adam Smalley named Porsche Carrera Cup GB Junior shootout winner

Monday 22 November 2021

Motorsport UK Academy Team UK Futures Adam Smalley has been announced as the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Junior for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He will follow in the footsteps of Motorsport UK Academy Team UK driver and outgoing champion Harry King in the role, with the opportunity to further his career on the international motorsport stage like fellow Team UK driver and former Junior champion Dan Harper (2018-19).

Adam was put through his paces at a challenging multi-faceted assessment day at the start of the month by an expert panel, including Harry and 2021 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Junior vice-champion Lorcan Hanafin. The 2021 Ginetta GT4 Supercup champion was one of four talented finalists picked from over 50 applicants. The judges evaluated each driver’s technical ability, media aptitude, physical fitness, psychological approach and driving skills behind the wheel of the new 510 hp ‘Type 992’ 911 GT3 Cup for qualifying and race simulations runs against the clock on the Silverstone International Circuit.

Adam said: “It’s a privilege to have been selected as the Porsche GB Junior 2022/2023. It’s still sinking in, and I can’t thank Porsche enough for giving me this opportunity. I’ve had such an amazing season. It couldn’t have gone any better from winning the Ginetta GT4 Supercup Championship to now being selected as the Porsche GB Junior. I’ve now got a busy couple of weeks deciding what team to race with next season and putting a testing plan in place to prepare me for next season. I’ll be working closely with Porsche, and I’m looking forward to the next two seasons.”

James MacNaughton, Manager, Motorsport Porsche Cars GB, commented: “All four drivers put in very impressive and determined performances on the day, proving to us that they really wanted to be the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Junior for the next two years. Our decision process was as difficult as always, but Adam emerged ahead. We’re certainly excited to help enhance Adam’s already exceptional skills both on and off the track during the next two years.”

Similar to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Junior programme, the Motorsport UK Academy identifies and nurtures young racing talent. If you’re feeling inspired to follow in the tracks of Adam, you can apply for the Motorsport UK Academy Team UK Futures programme.
