Sevenoaks and District Motor Club’s Autosolo event, to be held at Brands Hatch this weekend, will see the single biggest entry of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in national motorsport history in the UK.

Set to be held on Sunday 27th February, of the 50 vehicles entered into the event, ten entries will be fully electric Tesla or Nissan vehicles and they will compete alongside their traditional internal combustion engine counterparts.

The event will be attended by three-time Autosolo champion Alan Wakeman, who will be competing in an electric vehicle for the first time, and bringing his significant cross-discipline experience to the event.

Hugh Chambers, Motorsport UK CEO, commented: “The adoption of electric vehicles into various motorsport disciplines reflects a shift in the road vehicle market, which in 2021 saw a doubling of pure electric car sales. Different and varied propulsion technologies such as electric vehicles are going to be central in moving UK motorsport towards net-zero emissions, and these technologies are a key feature of Motorsport UK’s sustainability strategy which was published last year.

“Events such as this will set the benchmark for the future and I would like to congratulate Sevenoaks and District Motor Club and all those involved for creating the event and look forward to seeing the results.”

Chris Judge, Club Chairman, Sevenoaks and District Motor Club, said: “Sevenoaks and District Motor Club have always tried to be innovative and forward-thinking, so the inclusion of standard electric cars is inevitable for club motorsport, and we believe an Autosolo should be the ideal introduction for these vehicles.”

Alan Wakeman, Three-time Autosolo Champion, concluded:  “I’ve competed in many, many Autosolo events, but this will be my first time competing in an electric vehicle. Three main areas attract me to EVs. Firstly, is their potential performance – acceleration and power delivery can be fantastic. Secondly is the practicality and cost of running EVs. Thirdly, I’ve always worked in new technology areas, so this feels like a logical next step for me. I don’t know what to expect on the day, but I have a good experience level; I can adapt and enjoy finding how to get the most out of any car. But rest assured that I’ll be out there enjoying myself along with others. I can’t wait to drive Tevo Solution’s Tesla Model 3!”
