The start of a new week comes with an abundance of motorsport achievements. From British GT to hill climbs, here is a full debrief of all the race weekend action.

British GT Championship – Rounds 7 & 8 at Oulton Park

After a successful run in the first race, British drivers Matt Topham and Darren Turner secured pole position, edging their team closer to the championship win. Motorsport UK Academy Team UK coach Tom Onslow-Cole alongside Kevin Tse claimed the GT3 race win for RAM Racing.

After the second race was paused for the safety car to be deployed, Burton and Burns secured their driver championship win, as well as Century Motorsport’s 2021 team championship victory.

Congratulations to the two Brits and the team on achieving their 2021 championship titles!

GB3 Championship – Rounds 19, 20 & 21 at Oulton Park

The GB3 Championship also raced around the iconic Oulton Park, with Zak O’Sullivan securing a victory at the start of the weekend after leading every lap of the first race. British driver Luke Browning took the top spot after passing previous race winner O’Sullivan on the first lap during a dramatic second race.

In the final race, O’Sullivan just missed out on claiming an early championship win. After an impressive move from sixteenth to sixth, the Carlin driver proved he had the pace, but it was Roman Bilinski who took pole position.

British Drag Racing Championship – Santa Pod Raceway

It was an exciting weekend at Santa Pod Raceway which hosted the fifth round in the British Drag Racing Championship. Seven-time drag racing champion Andy Robinson debuted his new supercharged 1969 Chevrolet Camaro at the race event but experienced issues in qualifying.

The competition is still on between championship contenders Kevin Slyfield and Nick Davies, with Davies continuing to lead in the standings by only eleven points. Swiss driver Bruno Bader took the race win ahead of the British drivers.

British Hill Climb Championship – Rounds 25 & 26 (Craigantlet)

With the championship points being so tight? leading up to the race weekend at Craigantlet, the drivers pushed to the absolute limit to secure the title. After a great run on the first day with 39.22 seconds, Wallace Menzies was officially crowned the 2021 Motorsport UK British Hill Climb Champion.

Even though the championship was his, Menzies returned for Round 26 and improved his time from the previous day by posting a 39.16-second climb, closely followed by competitors Scott Moran and Alex Summers.

British Car Trial Championship – Gaby Mohr Trial

At the British Car Trial Championship Gaby Mohr Trial, Barrie Parker left the event as the provisional overall trial winner after a stellar performance in his Liege R. Trevor Moffatt and Simon Harris led in their respective classes.

The subsequent trial takes place on 10 October, where the drivers will compete in the Clywd Trial. Find out more about the British Car Trial Championship and access the final results here.

FIA Formula One Heineken Gran Premio D’italia 2021

In Sunday’s race at Monza, McLaren became the first team this season to secure a 1-2 finish. Daniel Riccardo took the win, with fellow teammate and former Motorsport UK Academy driver Lando Norris claiming P2, his highest race finish. After a shocking incident involving Max Verstappen and Britain’s Lewis Hamilton, Verstappen received a three-place grid drop for the next round at Sochi. Hamilton managed to walk away from the crash safely with no significant injuries.

FIA Formula 2 – Monza

Alongside the F1, the Formula 2 drivers battled it out at the infamous Italian track. Briton Dan Ticktum had an excellent start to the weekend after posting the fastest time in free practice. After a challenging two races, Ticktum managed to secure a podium finish in the feature race.

Formula 2 will join Formula 1 at Sochi on the 24-26 September, where Ticktum hopes to secure the points needed to climb into third place in the driver standings. Find out more about the race here.

FIA World Rally Championship – Acropolis Rally Greece

After a challenging weekend at the Acropolis Rally Greece, British driver Gus Greensmith secured a fifth-place finish alongside co-driver Chris Patterson. Elfyn Evans and co-driver Scott Martin were approximately a second behind Greensmith, concluding the weekend in sixth.

The FIA World Rally Championship will head to Finland for the WRC Secto Automotive Rally on 1–3 October.

IndyCar Grand Prix of Portland

British driver and Motorsport UK Academy Team UK driver Callum Ilott made his debut in the IndyCar series this past weekend with Juncos Hollinger Racing. After displaying his talents on track amongst more experienced IndyCar drivers, the young Brit has officially secured a seat at Raceway Laguna Seca and the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
