Weekend Review: 15 -17 October 2021
It was a thrilling weekend of motorsport, with the past few days playing host to several final rounds and the prize giving of various 2021 championship trophies. Here is a look back at all the motorsport highlights and results from across the UK and overseas.
Motorsport UK Wera Tools British Kart Championships – Rotax and Honda at PFi
It was an exciting weekend at PF International for the final round of the 2021 British Kart Championships, with the Rotax and Honda classes heading out on track over the two-day event, in addition to the Total Karting Zero series.
After an intense couple of days of racing, met with the challenge of the unpredictable British weather, the 2021 champions were crowned. Ethan Jeff-Hall raced across the line to secure the Mini Max championship win before Daniel Tate finished second in the Rotax 177 final to claim the championship.
Briton’s Daniel Guinchard made karting history by becoming the first Junior driver to win two British Championships (IAME and Rotax) in the same year. Meanwhile, after a difficult final race in the Senior Rotax, Dan Holland Racing driver Rhys Hunter concluded the weekend with a spot at the top of the podium.
Congratulations to all the 2021 Champions, competitors and teams! The British Kart Championships will return next year.
McGrady Insurance Motorsport UK Northern Ireland Rally Championship – Tour of the Sperrins
Callum Devine and Brian Hoy were victorious at the Tour of the Sperrins Rally, finishing first overall on Saturday (18 October). Jonny Greer and Kirsty Riddick claimed their second McGrady Insurance Motorsport UK Northern Ireland Rally Championship title.
Greer and Riddick entered the final round with a five-point lead, giving them the confidence needed to focus and ensure the car got back safely, finishing the rally stage in third overall. After an impressive drive in the previous stages, Devine and Hoy entered the final test as the favourite for the rally win. The pair secured a winning margin over runner-up drivers Desi Henry and Niall Burns of 34.7 seconds.

GB3 Championship – Rounds 22, 23 and 24 at Donington Park
It was a thrilling weekend at Donington Park. British driver Zak O’Sullivan secured the 2021 GB3 Championship victory, 164-points ahead of Ayrton Simmons, who concludes the season in second place ahead of Christian Mansell. Sixteen-year-old O’Sullivan finished in pole position in the first two races of the final championship round, adding a new championship qualifying lap record to his list of achievements at Donington Park.

Intelligent Money British GT Championship – Round 9 at Donington Park
Leo Machitski and Dennis Lind of Barwell Motorsport seal the 2021 GT3 Pro-Am title after a challenging weekend at Donington Park due to the ever-changing weather conditions. British drivers Marcus Clutton and Morgan Tillbrook had a successful weekend, after showing good pace in the first practice session on Saturday, the pair went on to finish the first race in pole position. With the intensity increasing for the final day of the championship, the GT3 drivers were hopeful for another positive result, which they achieved by securing the victory in the final race.

FIA World Rally Championship – RallyRACC Rally de España
British driver Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin finished the weekend second overall, meaning the championship battle between the British rallying duo and fellow teammates Sébastian Ogier and Julien Ingrassia heads into the final round at Rally Monza.
British Junior WRC driver Jon Armstrong and co-driver Phil Hall had a successful day on Friday after taking the lead ahead of championship leaders Sami Pajari and Marko Salminen. The Finnish drivers came fighting back, leading to them being crowned 2021 Junior WRC champions.
