European Le Mans Series returns to Silverstone

Tuesday 02 September 2025

After a six-year hiatus, Silverstone is back on the ELMS schedule. The 4 Hours of Silverstone on 13 and 14 September 2025 will bring endurance racing back to the iconic home of British motorsport and will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in deciding this year’s champions, during the penultimate event of the season.

Fans will be able to cheer on British drivers, including Oliver Gray, Jamie Chadwick, Nick Yelloly, Tim Creswick, Duncan Cameron and many more as they fight for victory on home soil.

The weekend will be the first time the Michelin Le Mans Cup and Ligier European Series has raced on UK soil.

Four fiercely contested classes – LMP2, LMP2 Pro/Am, LMP3 and LMGT3 – comprise a massive 42-car grid and will be joined by the equally competitive Michelin Le Mans Cup support series.

Each car runs with a renewable biofuel (Excellium Racing 100) from TotalEnergies, a 100% certified sustainable fuel, offering a unique approach to fuelling endurance racing.

Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, comments, “Once again the European Le Mans Series calendar features a selection of circuits, each with a variety of challenges to test both the car and the driver.  The ACO is extremely pleased to see the ELMS returning to the UK for the first time since 2019, giving the British fans a taste of Le Mans at home at Silverstone.

“The ELMS has firmly established itself as the leading European endurance series. With grids of over 40 cars, featuring a great mix of Le Mans Prototypes and GTs, and some of the top drivers and teams from around the world.  It looks like the 2025 season is going to deliver even more.”

The categories

LMP2

The Le Mans Prototype 2 class comprises privateer teams independent of constructors, all of whom use one of four chassis from Dallara, Ligier Automotive, Oreca and Riley Tech/Multimatic as well as a 4-litre V8 engine from Gibson Tecchnology.

LMP2 is the leading class in ELMS, and a spot on the grid has become even more sought after since the category was dropped from the World Endurance Championship bill for the 2024 season.

LMP2 Pro/Am

Running the same machinery as the standard LMP2 class, the only differentiator in LMP2 Pro/Am is the driver line-up; each team much feature at least one Bronze rated driver.

LMP3

With the aim of being affordable, mechanically accessible and ultra-competitive, four manufacturers race in the LMP3 class – Ligier, Duqueine Engineering, Ginetta and Adess. This category serves as a proving ground for ambitious endurance drivers, engineers and mechanics of the future.

LMGT3

LMGT3 race cars are based on production road car models categorised as Grand Tourers. Like LMP2 Pro/Am, cars racing in this class must also feature a Bronze-rated driver.

Everything to play for

Motorsport Team UK graduate Jamie Chadwick, the three time W Series Champion, made history as first woman to win a NXT/Indy Lights race on a road course in 2024. She will be sharing the IDEC Sport with Mathys Jaubert and Daniel Juncadella, who took LMP2 honours in the opening two races but has slipped back to third in the rankings after finishing 11th in both two recent rounds.

Oliver Gray, Motorsport UK Academy graduate and a past member of Williams Driver Academy, has taken her place at the top of the standing after winning at both Imola and Spa in the VDS Panis Entry he shares with Esteban Masson and Charles Melesi. Gray switched to ELMS at start of 2024 after failing to make an impression in FIA F3 in 2023, finishing second in LMP2 during his Le Mans debut in June. He continues to make a mark in endurance racing.

Le Mans class winner, and Motorsport UK Academy graduate, Nick Yelloly holds second place in the standings having finished runner-up in the past three races sharing the Inter Europol Competition entry wirh Tom Dillmann and Jakub Smiechowski. Adding to British interest Oli Caldwell and Alex Quin head the LMP2 Pro-Am Drivers’ Championship after winning the class at Spa.
