Motorsport in the UK is more than a sport. It’s a shared passion, a national story, and a community powered by people.
Motorsport UK is the national governing body for four-wheeled motorsport – responsible for keeping the sport safe, fair and fun for everyone.
For over 120 years, Britain has been at the heart of global motorsport. Today, that legacy lives on through a vibrant, nationwide community of over 100,000 people – from competitors and volunteers to clubs, officials and fans – delivering more than 3,500 events every year across 14 different disciplines.
From grassroots events in local venues to world-class championships like the British Grand Prix, motorsport in the UK is as diverse as it is exciting. Whether it’s racing wheel-to-wheel on a circuit, navigating a rally stage, or testing precision in an autoSOLO, there’s a motorsport for everyone – and that’s what makes it special.
Motorsport isn’t powered by engines alone – it’s powered by people.
Behind every event are the volunteers, officials and clubs who make it happen. Over 64,000 competitors, 11,000 trained volunteers and more than 600 clubs form the backbone of the sport, creating opportunities for others to get involved and keeping events safe, fair and fun.
Whether you’re competing, volunteering or spectating, you’re part of a community built on passion, commitment and shared experience.
As the governing body, we set the standards that underpin the sport — from safety and regulation to fairness in competition.
We issue licences and event permits, support clubs and organisers, and provide training, guidance and resources to help our members thrive.
We also work to grow the sport – promoting participation, supporting major events, and helping more people discover how they can get involved.
At the same time, we’re driving progress. From improving safety and wellbeing to championing inclusion and sustainability, we are continually evolving motorsport to meet the needs of today and tomorrow.
British motorsport is a global force.
Nine of the eleven Formula 1 teams are based in the UK, and the industry contributes around £16 billion to the economy, supporting more than 50,000 skilled jobs.
Motorsport UK plays a key role in that success – representing the UK internationally, contributing to global governance, and helping to develop the next generation of talent.
But our focus remains firmly on the people and communities across the UK who bring the sport to life every day.
Motorsport is evolving – and so are we.
Interest in the sport has never been higher, but many people still don’t know how to get involved. Bridging that gap is our biggest opportunity.
Our Vision 2030 strategy sets out a clear ambition:
to get more people enjoying motorsport, more often.
We’re working to make motorsport more accessible, more inclusive and easier to be part of – by lowering barriers to entry, supporting clubs and volunteers, and creating better experiences for everyone involved.
Because the future of motorsport depends on the people who power it.
Motorsport isn’t one thing — it’s many. And there’s a place for everyone within it.
Whether you want to compete, volunteer, support a local club or simply experience the atmosphere of an event, your journey can start here.
There’s a motorsport for everyone. Discover yours here.
