Weekend Review: 18 – 19 December 2021

Monday 20 December 2021

A thrilling conclusion to the inaugural Extreme E season in Bovington, Dorset headlined the final weekend of competitive action before the festive break.

Here’s a round-up of what you may have missed:

Extreme E – Jurassic X-Prix, UK

The margins could scarcely have been closer between Nico Rosberg’s RXR and Sir Lewis Hamilton’s X44 outfits heading into the season finale on the Jurassic Coast, but ultimately fourth position – and a win countback – proved enough for the former to mark the race for sustainability’s first chapter with championship glory.

Heading into the crucial decider, X44 built up an early advantage out front courtesy of Cristina Gutierrez as, conversely, RXR’s Molly Taylor seemed to struggle and dropped back to fourth, moving the two level on points atop the standings but – crucially – RXR retained top spot by virtue of having more wins.

And that proved to be the difference; X44 won the event ahead of JBXE and Andretti, but Johan Kristofferson held the line to seal fourth and the championship for RXR, the finest of margins between the two chief title protagonists.
