60 years of Tour of Epynt…
This weekend will see Port Talbot Motor Club run the Ynyscynon Mot Centre Tour of Epynt 2025 as a two-day event on this weekend, beginning on Saturday afternoon from Llandovery with four stages followed by four long stages on Sunday over a total of 80 miles.
The event has attracted a first-class range of cars and crews, and competition will no doubt be fierce and the results hard fought over one of the best tarmacadam venues in the country, celebrating its sixtieth year since its inception in 1965.
The rally hosts the Protyre Motorsport UK National Asphalt Rally Championship, the J D Tyres Welsh National Tarmacadam Championship, incorporating the King of Epynt Challenge, the HRCR Mini Cup, the HRCR Cat 1 cup, and the ANWCC Stage Rally Championship, long being a hallmark of the top levels of competitive rallying.
The Tour of Epynt has been recognized for its excellence in the past, having won the 2019 JD Tyres Welsh National Tarmacadam Championship’s Best Event award and the 2024 Senta award for Best Event Using the ‘Ranges’.
Although the series title is already decided in favour of St. Helier driver Sam Touzel, his season points scores in his Fiesta Rally 2 cannot be beaten by his closest title rival Jason Pritchard, the Welsh ace out with a damaged Toyota Yaris after a French accident. The battle for the Epynt win will as ever be a fierce one, with a third win for Touzel possible despite a lack of Epynt experience while 2024 victor and back to back champion Callum Black will be another Fiesta Rally 2 contender for this year.
Alan Stoneman, Clerk of the course comments, “This year’s Rally marks 60 years since the tour of Epynt was first run. We have kept the same format of running over two days, covering 70 plus competitive miles on some of the best tarmac stages in the UK.
“With the two-day format again, this year will be a big challenge for competitors.”
