Motorsport UK Academy drivers claim podiums in British Grand Prix Support Races
Luke Browning and Rowan Campbell-Pilling claimed podiums for Great Britain in the FIA Formula 2 and British F4 races at a rain drenched Silverstone on Sunday.
Browning, a current member of the Motorsport UK Academy, Team UK programme, stormed through the field in F2 to claim P3. Meanwhile, Campbell-Pilling, a Futures Year 2 driver took third in F4.
Browing takes podium in stunning charge; Crawford seals F2 victory in Silverstone rain
Motorsport UK Academy graduate Luke Browning made a stunning charge through the FIA Formula 2 field to claim a deserved podium as Jak Crawford took the win.
Crawford put in a dominant performance to win a rain-affected Silverstone Feature Race. The DAMS Lucas Oil driver took the lead at the start from third on the grid and held off Alexander Dunne late on to claim victory.
Dunne finished in second for Rodin Motorsport, while Browning’s stunning charge through the field from P12 took him to the final spot on the podium, following a 10-second time dropping him from seventh to 12th in the final classification after Saturday’s Sprint race.
Beganovic finished fourth, ahead of Montoya, while Fornaroli finished sixth for Invicta. Verschoor wound up in seventh, ahead of the Campos pairing of Lindblad and Josep María Martí, with Van Amersfoort Racing’s Rafael Villagómez taking the final point in P10.
Boya takes Silverstone win after rain and Red Flag
Mari Boya earned his first Feature Race victory in FIA Formula 3, leading the grid through a torrential downpour that resulted in the race being shortened by a Red Flag.
The Campos Racing driver finished ahead of Théophile Nael, who wound up second for Van Amersfoort Racing and Noel Léon for PREMA Racing in third.
Pre-race rain split strategies on the grid with some taking Wet Pirelli tyres and others fitted with Hard slick tyres and as the formation lap started, the rain intensified.
Boya took the lead ahead of Nael and Léon in the top three, with Sprint winner Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak and Laurens van Hoepen following in fourth and fifth.
Double-victory for Hanna at F4 Silverstone debut
Colombia’s Salim Hanna claimed a dominant victory in a frantic second British F4 race, making it two victories out of two for the weekend.
Starting third on the grid following a penalty for team-mate Martin Molnar, the Virtuosi Racing driver finished five seconds clear of second-placed Tommy Harfield from Worcestershire.
Thomas Bearman looked set to progress from his fourth-place grid slot, but battling with Motorsport UK Academy driver Rowan Campbell-Pilling, forced Bearman onto the gravel at Woodcote and he dropped down to seventh.
Hanna remained untroubled, crossing the line with a 5.5-second gap to Harfield, who held second place by half a second over Campbell-Pilling.
Bearman recovered to fourth while Molnar behind rounded out the top five. Ary Bansal came in sixth with Leo Robinson in seventh, 3.1 seconds separating seventh to 11th on the line.
