Organisers of the Manx National Rally are reporting a record response from competitors, with 225 entries placed for the 170 available places on the final entry list.
The event, which takes place on 8-9 May, is a round of several significant rally championships, so it was expected to be popular. The organisers did not, however, anticipate the volume of applications received when entries opened on 9 February. Not only is this a record for the Isle of Man but is one of the highest entries for UK asphalt rallying.
With each crew staying on the island for between four and five days and travelling from across the UK and as far afield as Japan, the event will bring a major tourist boost expected to be worth significantly more than £1 million.
A further boost has been given to the north of the island with the new Andreas Rally Village base and this is where the event will start on 7 May with a shakedown stage nearby.
Congratulations to Manx Auto Sport for proving that there is a strong competitive interest in rallying, with crews wanting to experience the challenge of competing on the Isle of Man. Additional entries from abroad provide further evidence of demand for this motorsport discipline in the UK.
