Britain’s Next Formula 1 Star?
Rising British talent Arvid Lindblad has taken another major step toward Formula 1 with a commanding maiden Feature Race victory in Formula 2 at Barcelona.
Widely regarded as one of motorsport’s most promising young drivers, the 17-year-old Red Bull Junior showcased his exceptional potential with a dominant win from pole position in Spain. Earlier in the season, Lindblad also claimed victory in the F2 Sprint Race in Bahrain.
“It’s just been an amazing weekend – fast throughout,” said Lindblad, who is also a beneficiary of the Motorsport UK Academy initiative set up by the governing body to provide the UK’s most promising young athletes with the skills to unlock their full potential.
“Since Jeddah, I’ve made a good step forward,” explained the teenager. “In Imola, we were fighting for the win in the Feature Race, and in Monaco as well, we were right in the game. So I feel like we’ve really been there in the last couple of rounds.”
Lindblad’s latest triumph has propelled him to third in the overall standings after 12 of 22 races, hot on the heels of current leader and former British F4 Champion, Alex Dunne.
Next up is Austria, followed by Silverstone – where Lindblad made history 12 months ago as the first driver in F3 to win both the Sprint and Feature races on the same weekend. With the championship title now firmly in sight, he’ll be aiming to build further momentum in the coming rounds.
“We’ll keep doing what we’re doing – focusing on the basics and making sure everything within our control is right – and we’ll see where we end up,” he said. “I have full faith in the [Campos Racing] team. They’ve given me a really strong package over the past couple of race weekends, so I’m confident we’ll be right at the sharp end again in the next few races.”
