“Building resilience in the face of challenges…”
Emmanuel Brads has raced and volunteered at various Race for Diversity events… he shares his experience of building resilience and confidence within motorsport…
Motorsport is one of the most competitive and financially demanding sports in the world. As a 19-year-old driver myself, I have come to know that progress often relies on more than just talent and hard work — it requires resilience, confidence, and the right support network. Communities such as Race for Diversity play a crucial role in strengthening these qualities by ensuring opportunities are accessible to people from all backgrounds.
One of the greatest challenges in motorsport which I have experienced is learning how to overcome setbacks, whether that is a lack of funding, limited access to resources, or results that do not reflect the effort put in. Race for Diversity helped to build my resilience by connecting me with peers who have faced similar challenges. Seeing others succeed despite obstacles provides a source of motivation, reminding me that determination and perseverance can carry you through difficult moments.
Confidence is equally important when pursuing opportunities, particularly when approaching sponsors, teams, or industry leaders. Race for Diversity provides role models and creates safe, empowering spaces where drivers can learn, grow, and feel part of a supportive community. Their initiatives — such as networking opportunities, workshops, and exposure to positive representation — reinforce self-belief and give me the confidence to present myself professionally and ambitiously.
Ultimately, communities like Race for Diversity not only inspire belief in what is possible, but also provide the tools to make it happen. By building resilience in the face of challenges and confidence in pursuing opportunities, they enable drivers like me to continue progressing in motorsport while working to inspire others along the way.
