Motorsport UK joins transport industry leaders for lower carbon fuels event

Tuesday 17 June 2025

Motorsport UK joined representatives of Shell, the RAC foundation, Philips 66, Airlines UK, and the British Ports Association at a thought leadership event hosted by Fuels Industry UK this month, to discuss the implementation of sustainable fuels across UK transport.

Held at the Royal Institute of Charted Surveyors in Westminster, Motorsport UK’s Technical Director, Ian Smith, presented on the innovative early adoption of sustainable liquid fuels at all levels in UK Motorsport.

Sustainable liquid fuels are already widely used within motorsport and their extended introduction will help the sport to reduce its carbon footprint, demonstrate innovation and safeguard the future of motorsport in the UK, while extending the life of the existing internal combustion engines without an ongoing reliance on fossil fuels.

The event was also attended by the Department of Transport Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State Aviation, Maritime and Security, Mike Kane MP, representatives of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), a broad cross-section of Fuels Industry UK members and industry specialists.

Motorsport UK looks forward to working closely with Fuels Industry UK to advocate for sustainable liquid fuels as a viable carbon-reducing technology, complementary to electrification in the journey toward net zero emissions. By leveraging motorsport as a demonstration platform, we can showcase how these fuels can immediately reduce carbon emissions while preserving the heritage and excitement of the internal combustion engine in motorsport.
