Motorsport UK Academy to support British F4 driver development from 2022

Tuesday 16 November 2021

Driver development within the F4 British Championship certified by FIA will be further boosted from the 2022 season with support from the Motorsport UK Academy.

The governing body’s performance pathway will further enhance the reputation of Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series for producing the next generation of rising stars, with improved driver education and coaching available to every driver on the grid for next season.

Drivers will be invited to a pre-season camp alongside family members and team personnel, with a structured, two-day programme focusing on key elements such as nutrition, fitness, communications, and performance to enable them to hit the ground running ahead of the 2022 season.

This will be further supplemented with expanded attendance from the Academy’s coaches at each of the ten British Touring Car Championship events, including a wider range of driver briefing resources, opportunities for 1:1 performance coaching and the delivery of an improved, FIA-mandated data coaching programme.

The purpose of the scheme is to provide continuous opportunities for education and development to all competitors, not only providing a framework for drivers to maximise their own individual performance, but also to collectively raise the standard of competition in the series to even greater heights.

The development marks the latest step in Motorsport UK’s vision to create a series offering real opportunities for drivers to progress through the single seater ranks, which also includes the introduction of arguably the world’s safest F4 car, the series opting to bolster the second-generation Tatuus-Abarth challenger with TOCA’s on-board safety systems.

Hugh Chambers, CEO of Motorsport UK said:

“I’m very pleased to unveil plans for the Motorsport UK Academy to play an active role in the development of drivers entered into the F4 British Championship certified by FIA for 2022.

“Our performance pathway has helped accelerate the careers of numerous rising stars within the sport to-date, as has British F4 over the years, making this partnership both a natural fit and an impactful one.”

Katie Baldwin, Competitors Pathway Manager said:

“Motorsport UK Academy’s vision centres on identifying and supporting talented athletes as they progress through the sport, so to be actively involved in driver development in British F4, the first step on the FIA’s Single-Seater Pathway, is a very exciting opportunity.

“We’re looking forward to working closely with the organisers, teams and drivers in the near future in order to put together and deliver a programme to equip them with the skills and guidance to go out and reach their full potential on track.”
