Race for Diversity continues to inspire new audiences…
Motorsport UK’s Race for Diversity programme aims to inspire and encourage young people to participate in STEM and then later pursue a career in Motorsport.
Over the last three months, the initiative has completed flagship school events with support from nationwide karting venue Team Sport, reaching over 180 Year 9 students.
Students had the opportunity to engage in pit stop challenges, engineering tasks, race strategy challenges, Sphero robot challenges, and enjoy time on the track. This touchpoint with students is vital as they go on to consider their GCSE subjects.
The initiative also had the opportunity for some of its wider youth community to experience their first British Touring Car championship at its penultimate race at Silverstone in September. The young people in attendance got the chance to speak and engage with touring car teams and other supporting championships present at the event.
The programme hosted another community event, exploring the nexus between law, motorsport, and sport, supported by Squire Patton Boggs. This event brought together legal professionals and aspiring lawyers from the community.
Through panel discussions and networking, our community members had the chance to gain valuable insight, varied legal pathways in sport and new connections that can support them on their journey.
One attendee stated, “Everyone on the panel was so informative and I loved hearing from them…very grateful for this event.”
Evelkah Powell, Race for Diversity Manager, Motorsport UK, comments, “These last few months of programme activity have been some of my favourite moments, as we were able to give our students and community members experiences and opportunities they have not been exposed to. Equally, hearing the feedback from those participating makes me proud of the work we do and the impact we are having across the UK.”
The varied range of opportunities within motorsport means that there is something for everyone, regardless of interests, gender and race. Any young person aged 14-24 is welcome to join Race for Diversity as it aims to encourage a more inclusive and diverse culture.
