Revival Revs Up for Sustainable Fuels
The 2025 Goodwood Revival will once again run exclusively on sustainable fuel, marking another key step in safeguarding the future of historic motorsport.
In a milestone for the sport, the 2024 Goodwood Revival became the first historic motorsport event in the world to stage its entire race programme solely on sustainable fuel. Under the landmark initiative, all competitors were required to use fuel containing at least 70 per cent advanced sustainable components.
The transition has been introduced gradually at Goodwood. The first sustainably powered race took place at the 2023 Revival, followed by two more at the 81st Members’ Meeting in April 2024. Crucially, no modifications are needed for cars and motorcycles to run on these ‘drop-in’ sustainable fuels.
Goodwood is continuing to champion the technology in 2025, with all competitors at both the 82nd Members’ Meeting and the Goodwood Revival mandated to race on sustainable fuel. The Revival’s pioneering efforts were recognised with the Motorsport UK Environmental Sustainability Award, celebrating its commitment to a greener future for motorsport.
As ever star power will be abundant at this year’s event. 2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button will contest the RAC TT Celebration in his newly acquired Jaguar E-type CUT 8, while 1997 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve makes his Revival debut in the AC Cobra ‘Hairy Canary’.
The entry list also includes ten Le Mans 24 Hours legends, boasting a combined 33 victories. Among them are nine-time winner Tom Kristensen, along with five-time winners Derek Bell and Emanuele Pirro.
Adding further glamour to the grid are four-time IndyCar Champion Dario Franchitti, three-time BTCC Champion Gordon Shedden, seven-time NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson, and World Touring Car Champions Andy Priaulx and Rob Huff.
Motorsport UK has voiced support for an ‘eclectic’ approach to the future of racing – envisioning a world powered by a mix of systems and fuels suited to different applications.
