Rowland Starts Formula E Title Defence
All eyes on Sunday will be on the F1 title decider in Abu Dhabi, but as one World Championship reaches its conclusion, another bursts back into life.
Just hours earlier, on Saturday afternoon, Oliver Rowland will begin his ABB FIA Formula E World Championship title defence in São Paulo, Brazil.
This will be the final season for the current generation of GEN3 Evo cars, and competitors face the largest and most expansive Formula E calendar to date, with 17 races across 11 venues, culminating in a double-header in London next August.
Rowland once again lines up for the Nissan Formula E Team, and the 33-year-old Yorkshireman is eager to get started.
“I’m looking forward to being out on track in Brazil and starting the new campaign as defending Drivers’ World Champion,” he said. “It’s a new season, so our focus is once again on maximising our performance throughout, as the field will be even tighter. I led for the majority of last year’s São Paulo E-Prix and will be aiming to fight at the front again to ensure a strong start to the new season.”
As in F1, Britain is well represented on the Formula E grid. Former champion Jake Dennis lines up for Andretti, Dan Ticktum for Cupra Kiro, while Taylor Barnard joins DS Penske after his record-breaking rookie campaign.
Rowland, Dennis and Barnard are all successful alumni of the Motorsport UK Academy, a performance pathway designed to develop talented young drivers in the UK.
All 18 races will be broadcast live either on ITV4, with an ITVX simulcast, or exclusively on ITVX. A highlights show will also air on ITV4 in the week following each race.
