The Sport

Motorsport is powered by people – competitors, volunteers, officials, teams and spectators who bring the sport to life every day. Race With Respect is our shared commitment to creating a positive, welcoming environment where everyone involved in motorsport is treated with respect.

Through Race With Respect, Motorsport UK works with the community to promote positive behaviour across the sport – on track, in the paddock and online. It’s about setting clear expectations, supporting clubs and organisers, and making sure motorsport remains a place where people feel proud to belong.

Race With Respect Code

Everyone involved in a Motorsport UK event plays a part in creating a positive environment for the sport. By taking part, whether as a competitor, volunteer, official, team member , you agree to follow the values of Motorsport UK’s Respect Code:

Helping create a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone involved in the sport
Acting with integrity and fairness in competition and conduct

Respecting the rules of the sport and the authority of Motorsport UK officials

We all share responsibility for maintaining high standards of behaviour. If you witness behaviour that falls short of the Respect Code, we encourage you to speak up.

Breaches of the Respect Code may result in disciplinary action.

What is Race with Respect?

Race with Respect is a sportwide set of values; Respect, Integrity, Fair Play, Self-Control and Good Manners and are the basic standards expected for all members of the community.

Its aim is to ensure the sport is welcoming and accessible for everyone and to allow participants to enjoy the sport in whichever capacity they choose enabling a healthy and positive environment for the motorsport community. Creating a more inclusive and progressive sport for everyone and to encourage all to play a proactive part in speaking up when poor standards are displayed.

By participating in a Motorsport UK event, in any capacity, you are agreeing to follow the values of the governing body’s Respect Code.

Who is responsible for Race with Respect?

Everyone is responsible for bringing about and embracing the values of Race with Respect.

Together we aim to make the sport more welcoming and accessible for everyone through raising awareness of what is and is not acceptable behaviour and language, providing education around the values of Race with Respect, empowering our community to make a difference, encouraging two-way communication between
all of the groups and enforcing disciplinary measures when needed.

What is inclusive behaviour?

Being inclusive means allowing everyone to be themselves so that they can participate in all events and activities without concerns.

Where events are not inclusive people may feel that they are not being listened to or that they don’t fit in. In extreme cases people may be fearful or experience discrimination, abuse, prejudice or bullying.

Equality has its roots within the nine protected characteristics – set out by the Equalities Act 2010 – which are:

Where you think that yourself or an individual has been treated differently or poorly in relation to one of the characteristics above or any other personal
characteristic you can use the Race with Respect process.

We need to remove the use of disrespectful terminology, and any non-inclusive actions or behaviours, as well as eradicate bullying from our sport. Bullying is defined as intentional aggression towards another person either online or inperson. This could be excluding or isolating someone, not letting them be part of the group; teasing, taunting, name-calling, spreading rumours, physical acts of aggression or discriminating against someone because of a protected characteristic. If you witness or hear about bullying taking place in the sport, please call it out by following the Race with Respect reporting procedure.

It may in some cases be clear when someone has been treated badly, in others it might be more subtle. Frequently concerns we hear are people using language
related to someone’s identity that is no longer acceptable, or being the objects of jokes which they find offensive rather than funny. These actions can have a big impact on people even if they were not intended to. In these situations a simple
apology may be enough. If, after initial education/awareness, the behaviour is repeated, it will result in further action.

Role Specific Information

Information for Competitors

How do I raise a concern/submit a report as a competitor?

Speak to an Official who is at the event i.e the Clerk of the Course, Competition Secretary or Club Safeguarding Officer. It is vital that you report you concern as soon as possible at the event for it to be resolved.
All reports of poor behavior will be investigated, and a decision will be made. The Club will then submit all relevant paperwork to Motorsport UK.
If the issue cannot be resolved locally, you can use this ONLINE FORM to report incidents directly to Motorsport UK and upload supporting evidence.
Reports can be submitted anonymously; however, this may limit the investigation process and prevent feedback from being provided.

What if a concern/report is made about me?

All reports, whether submitted to a Club or directly to Motorsport UK, will be reviewed and investigated. Motorsport UK will assess all reports and, where necessary, may refer them to the relevant Club, Championship, or Organiser for further investigation.

We ask everyone involved to be truthful, open, and respectful throughout the process and to take the opportunity to learn from the findings.

You will be informed of the investigation’s outcome and any further actions or referrals.

The Respect Code aims to strengthen and grow the sport, ensuring it remains accessible and welcoming for all.

Information for Officials

How do I raise a concern/submit a report as an Official?

Officials serve as role models within the motorsport community, upholding the highest standards of conduct as set out in the Respect Code, regardless of whether they hold a Motorsport UK Official Licence. As an Official at a Motorsport UK event, you represent both the Organiser and the Governing Body. If you witness poor behavior, we encourage you to address it immediately by explaining to the individual(s) how their actions fall short of the expected standards. If the issue remains unresolved, you may escalate the matter to the Organising Club or Championship for further action.

What if a concern/report is made about me?

All reports, whether submitted to a Club or directly to Motorsport UK, will be reviewed and investigated. Reports will be handled in the same fair and transparent manner as any other report. The investigation process will be conducted objectively, ensuring that all parties involved have the opportunity to provide their perspective. You may be asked to provide your account of the incident and any relevant evidence. Throughout the process, you are expected to engage in an open and respectful manner. If any actions or improvements are recommended as a result of the investigation, these will be communicated to you. The goal is not only to address concerns but also to support learning and development, reinforcing the values of the Respect Code to create a positive environment for all.

Information for Parents

As a parent or guardian, you play a vital role in fostering a positive environment and encouraging participants to uphold integrity and fairness in the sport. While emotions can run high, it is essential to remain respectful toward officials and fellow participants, even when decisions or events do not go your way. Your behavior sets the standard for your children and their peers. The way you interact with participants and officials at an event influence what they see as acceptable conduct. If you witness or are involved in an incident that falls outside the Respect Code, you should report it to the organising Club as soon as possible.
