Volunteers’ Week: Meet the Scrutineer
Keith Auld started out in the RAF and then decided to use his transferable skills as a mechanic in the realms of motorsport.
How did you get into motorsport?
From my days in the RAF, I was stationed in Lincolnshire and got involved in Grass Tacking as a mechanic and designing roll cages after an accident. I then left the RAF in 1970 to live in Yorkshire and after leaving the forces I was able to use my knowledge as a mechanic in motorsport.
What made you decide to become a scrutineer?
A phone call from a very good friend in Lincolnshire who was Scrutineering at Snetterton and local Rallies. I visited Snetterton and worked as an assistant scrutineer. My knowledge as a mechanic on cars and truck was a great help and this should still be a factor.
Do you have any advice for anyone considering volunteering?
Just enjoy what you are doing and seek the knowledge from scrutineers that are willing to help new volunteers to motorsport.
