Young British Stars Shine Bright in FIA Formula 2

Wednesday 02 July 2025

With two races on this weekend’s British Grand Prix bill, FIA Formula 2 remains the final step toward a coveted seat on the FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS BRITISH GRAND PRIX 2025 grid.

As proof, look no further than last year’s F2 races at Silverstone. Saturday’s rain-soaked Sprint Race saw Kimi Antonelli take victory, while Sunday’s longer Feature Race was won by Isack Hadjar. Now, 12 months on, both have ascended to Formula 1, alongside fellow F2 graduates Ollie Bearman and Franco Colapinto.

This year’s F2 field is once again brimming with young talent eager to climb motorsport’s final rung – and, once more, Britain is well represented.

With four British drivers already on the Grand Prix grid – three of whom are race winners in 2025 – the UK continues to be a powerhouse of racing talent.

At just 17 years old, Arvid Lindblad is already being hailed as the sport’s next major star. A member of the Red Bull Junior Team since 2012 – when he won both the WSK Euro Series and WSK Final Cup in OK karting – Lindblad transitioned to single-seaters as soon as he was eligible.

Last year, he made history by becoming the first driver in FIA F3 history to win both the Sprint and Feature Races over the same weekend — triumphing twice on home soil at Silverstone.

Now competing in F2, Lindblad has broken more records, becoming the youngest ever winner in F2 history after taking victory in the Sprint Race at Jeddah. Just six weeks later, he added a Feature Race win in Spain to his rapidly growing résumé. He currently sits sixth in the 2025 standings.

As another portent of the future, it has also been confirmed that the talented British teenager, who is of Swedish and Indian descent, is all set to take part in Friday’s first Free Practice at Silverstone for Red Bull Racing – his first F1 appearance in public.

Like Lindblad, Luke Browning is part of a Formula 1 development programme – this time with Williams Racing – and the highly promising pair are also both supported by the Motorsport UK Academy, a high-performance pathway for Britain’s most promising young athletes.

After developing his skills in karting, Browning claimed the prestigious British F4 Championship in 2020 and followed it up with the GB3 title two years later. He then spent two seasons in FIA F3, finishing third last year, before earning promotion to F2 at the start of this season. While still chasing his maiden victory at this level, the 23-year-old from Cheshire has already secured podium finishes in Melbourne, Bahrain, Imola, and Monaco. He is fifth in the standings, one place ahead of Lindblad.

This year’s F2 grid also features two more British hopefuls: John Bennett, last year’s GB3 runner-up and another Team UK athlete, and Cian Shields, who has climbed the ladder from British karting through GB3 and FIA F3.

Several other drivers familiar to UK audiences are also contesting the 2025 FIA F2 season, notably Irishman Alex Dunne who first made headlines by winning the British F4 Championship in 2022. Despite being disqualified from the previous round, he is second in the standings behind the ultra-experienced Richard Verschoor, the Dutchman is contesting his fifth season in F2.

After an early morning Free Practice session, the F2 schedule kicks off with a critical 30-minute Qualifying session at 14:00 on Friday. The Sprint Race follows at 13:15 on Saturday, while the Feature Race gets underway at 11:05 on Sunday, leading directly into the British Grand Prix.

All the F2 action will be broadcast live on Sky Sports F1.
