Motorsport UK ranked third globally in landmark sustainability benchmark
Motorsport UK has been ranked third in the world in the 2025 Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sport (GSBS), placing the organisation among the highest-performing sporting bodies internationally.
Assessed alongside 78 organisations across 11 countries and 11 sports, the GSBS provides an independent, data-led evaluation of sustainability performance across environmental, social and governance measures. Motorsport UK achieved a score of 80 out of 100, securing Gold standard status and finishing alongside global sporting organisations such as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
While those clubs operate on a vastly different commercial scale, the result demonstrates what can be achieved through clear strategy, strong governance and sustained, community-led action.
“This recognition belongs to the whole motorsport community,” said Hugh Chambers, CEO of Motorsport UK. “From clubs and volunteers to officials, competitors and partners, people across the sport are working together to ensure motorsport is responsible, inclusive and fit for the future.”
A community effort, delivered locally
Although the GSBS ranking reflects organisational performance, its findings are rooted in what happens across the sport every day, from how events are run to how people are supported, welcomed and represented.
Motorsport UK performed strongly across all four GSBS pillars, highlighting not only environmental action, but also social responsibility and governance. This balanced approach reflects a belief that sustainability in motorsport goes beyond carbon reduction alone.
Sustainability beyond the environment
Alongside work to reduce environmental impact and support clubs on their journey to net zero, Motorsport UK’s sustainability approach places strong emphasis on people, participation and opportunity.
Initiatives such as Girls on Track UK, Race for Diversity, the Inclusion Hub, and expanded youth pathways all contributed to the organisation’s strong performance in the social pillar of the GSBS assessment.
“Sustainability is about creating a sport that people feel part of,” said Jessica Runicles, Head of Sustainability. “Environmental progress is vital, but so too is the work we’re doing on inclusion, representation and community impact – and that progress is being driven in partnership with clubs and volunteers across the UK.”
A milestone, not a finish line
Motorsport UK was one of only two motorsport organisations, alongside Formula E, to achieve Gold standard status in the 2025 GSBS – an important milestone for the sport in the UK.
However, the focus remains firmly on continued progress: supporting the community, sharing learning and building momentum together.
Because when motorsport works collectively, it can help shape a sport that is not only exciting – but inclusive, responsible and built to last.
