About Us

We are a small but friendly collection of motorsport enthusiasts, predominantly focused around Stage Rallying. We have long established roots in the sport with members competing on, marshalling for and helping to organise rally events for over 4 decades. We can offer advice on how to get started in motorsport, whatever your interest - we're a friendly bunch and we don't bite! You can follow us on Facebook and Twitter, ask questions or even come along to one of the monthly club meets (usually first Wednesday of each month, generally around the Sutton Coldfield area, although we do try to move it around the Midlands to suit the members) where it's always easier to sit down and have a chat about things in person.

About Us

Club Information

2020 was a year that most of us will want to forget for one reason or another. Many families suffered immeasurable difficulties and our sympathies, thoughts and prayers have been shared with them.

2021 opens another new chapter in the history of our Club, we are celebrating the 90th anniversary of our Premier event - the Circuit of Ireland Rally. 2021 reflects our continued focus on providing quality events for competitors, members and spectators alike.

The Club are delighted to be associated with our sister company which is re-introducing the Circuit of Ireland International Rally a round of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship at Easter (April 2 & 3). Our current event sponsor, Wastewater Solutions is continuing their support and we not only thank them but look forward to a long and lasting relationship into the future. This two day spectacle promises to be one of the paramount rounds in 2021 utilising some of the best tarmac stages in Ireland.

The first May bank holiday sees the Simon Brien Residential Hill Climb at Craigantlet. This event is over 11 decades old and growing in stature every year. One of the superlative rounds of the British Hill Climb and ANICC Championships on closed public roads it attracts some of the most talented drivers in the UK. In 2019 the current 'Hill' record was equalled by an excellent drive from Dave Uren. We are aware that it is only a matter of time before the 39 second barrier will be crossed.

The championship Auto-test has been 'kicked' to the beginning of August from its traditional May date which will be an interesting development.

Knockagh Hill Climb returns to its regular slot on the second weekend in September; the final round of the ANICC Hill Climb Championship, a sure-fire opportunity to see the best talent take on this challenge for man and machine.

The Club really appreciate the support from The North Down House Bistro for our October Sprint at Kirkistown, the penultimate round of the ANICC Championship, which has proved to be one of the most exciting tussles for points during the year.

Christmas is a time to spend with family and friends and what better way to get some fresh air than to come out and join us on It's Not The Boxing Day Rally is back to the 27th of December this year. This event is always oversubscribed within less than a day of entries opening, cause it's a great day of festive fun!!

The Club also organise events that don't need a car to enter. We have an annual Charity function, which happens, rain hail or snow to raise money for our chosen charity. In 2019 we raised over £300 for the N.I. Children's Hospice, thanks to all who supported this worthy cause. 2020 saw Prostrate Cancer as our chosen charity and we hope to continue the support of our members and competitors to battle this common condition.

Why not come and join us in 2021 and enjoy yourself driving, navigating or marshalling on one of our events?

The Club has a membership over 300, but are always keen to recruit new members and competitors into the sport and we manage to fit in several social events throughout the year. We have just launched our Future Champions programme, rewarding 4 young members with £500 each to assist their motorsport activities in 2020, more information on our website ( www.ulsterautomobile.club) and facebook page.

Look forward to seeing you out there!!

About Us

In 1934 a small group of young men sensed that the golden age of motoring was passing. This was due to the advent of mass production and therefore, they imposed a 1931 cut off date for cars to be eligible to join the Club (from Austin Sevens to Grand Prix Bugattis), perhaps an arbitrary cut-off point, but one chosen to eliminate the compromises of mass production. However, in its long life the Club has consistently shown a willingness to move with the times and over the years fine racing cars from the post war period have been welcomed which can be regularly seen at speed events.

The Club has special Sections for Light Cars, Edwardians, Alfa Romeo, Delages and Frazer Nash, but overall the Club has played a defining role in the development of what has become a world-wide passion – the love of old cars. In particular, the Vintage Sports-Car Club has fostered the active use of the finest cars.

Currently the VSCC has a global membership of over 7,500, many of whom enjoy the packed calendar of events which range from navigational rallies and off-road trials, driving tests, sprints, speed hill climbs and a host of social occasions. Keystone to the VSCC year are the race meetings which take place at high profile circuits regularly in the summer season, starting off at Silverstone in April and the Donington meeting, the pinnacle of the racing year.

The social element of the Club is essential to its success, and this can be seen in the large number of regular pub meets that take place all over the country and event abroad. The Membership are also well served by a wealth of quality publications, a monthly Newsletter and a well regarded quarterly magazine, The Bulletin, which is reason enough to be a VSCC member.

You would be hard pressed to find a car that was not catered for in the varied calendar. The Club’s ethos has always been one of friendly competition and nowadays all events are held under the auspices of The Motor Sports Association. Particular emphasis is placed on encouraging younger drivers, with special awards for under-23s. All Club events are held in beautiful parts of the British Isles and naturally lend themselves to a weekend trip away with the vintage car.

The Club enjoys a high profile within the historic motor racing world not only as an events promoter and social Club, but many of the Club’s members have been responsible for saving many important cars and have ensured they continue to be used as their creators intended. Quite often these responsibilities are passed from one generation of a family to a second or third.

The VSCC has its own headquarters which houses its archive, Library and permanent salaried staff who manage the Club’s services and events.

Since its formation the traditions of the Vintage Sports-Car Club have remained unaltered, although the events have become increasingly dynamic to cater for historic enthusiasts. The Club prides itself in being dynamic and able to adapt with the commercial aspects now involved in the motor sport world whilst respecting its history. This comes down to the long-standing ethos that ‘Vintage’ is a description of quality, not age, rather like fine wine!

Wakefield & District Motor Sports Club

Club Information

Member Type Motor Club
Activities Autotests, Car Trials, Rallying

About Us

Wakefield and District Motor Sports Club (W&DMSC) was formed in 1934. Initially the club tended to concentrate on motor cycle events. Its former President, Denis Parkinson, is a past TT (Isle of Man Tourist Trophy) winner.

Through the 1930's W&DMSC members competed many times on the Manx TT. And in 1937 and 1938 Wakefield carried off the team prize.

Through the fifties and sixties W&DMSC got involved in motor cycle scrambling; organising many events locally which attracted many international stars. Through the seventies the club attracted more and more members with an interest in cars until in the mid eighties the motor cycle membership tailed off to nil.

Like many motor clubs Wakefield has had its ups and downs at present Wakefield and District Motor Sports Club's current membership's main focus is on car based motor sport, particularly rallying. Of our current Membership, over half the club is competing or involved in a 'hands-on' way with preparation or running of cars on events, some racing and marshalling on rallies.

We organise a Club Championship, designed so that anyone with a standard road car can compete. The events include autotests and car trials in the summer with the occasional navigational test during the winter. The championship rounds are normally run on the second Wednesday of every month.

Club members meet every Wednesday evening from about 8.30 pm onwards for an informal natter at The Plough Inn. Warmfield Lane Normanton. WF1 5TL. Map reference 104/373211
Unless there is a club event is running.
