StreetCar Disabled Driver Scholars have competitive season start in first Autotest
Alex Sharpe and Paul Barker, StreetCar Disabled Driver Scholarship winners, had a competitive start to the season during their first grass Autotest event.
Created by Motorsport UK in partnership with Loughborough Car Club, the scholarship aims to make the sport more accessible for disabled participants, drawing on the success of the StreetCar initiative – celebrating grassroots motorsport opportunities for all. Both drivers won a fully funded season of AutoSOLOs and access to an adapted car at Loughborough Car Club.
Alec Sharpe and Paul Barker placed 19th and 20th out of 31 drivers.
Richard Egger, Competition Secretary, Loughborough Car Club, said, “It was the first time out for this year’s Loughborough Car Club scholars, both were super keen and proved to be competitive. Alex was 7th in class while Paul was half a second behind and 8th in a class of 14. Both improved markedly over the three rounds. Alex’s last run was 4th fastest in a field of 31. There are improvements still to come so some of the club regulars need to mind their backs.”
