Pride and LGBTQ+ Inclusion

What is LGBTQ+? 

LGBTQ+ is the acronym for lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer/questioning and more. The + is an inclusive symbol to involve people of all identities. 

What is an Ally? 

An Ally is an individual, typically straight, who supports the LGBTQ+ community. 

 There are a couple of different resources you can use to understand more terms used within the LGBTQ+ community: 

 What is Pride? 

Pride is a month dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ communities. It is an opportunity for people to come together to show love, support and friendship and highlight how far LGBTQ+ rights have come, and the work that still needs to be done. 

Pride Resources 

Motorsport UK have created and prepared a variety of resources for Clubs to celebrate pride with their members and their community. From social media wording, to templates, to graphics for stickers you can get produced, you can use these resources to show your Club’s support for the LGBTQ+ community: 

There are some amazing resources created by organisations dedicated to LGBTQ+ rights in sport: 

  • Racing Pride are an organisation who were developed to positively promote LGBTQ+ inclusivity within motorsport and among its partners.
  • Rainbow Laces is a campaign led by Stonewall UK, the largest LGBTQ+ rights organisation in Europe. The purpose of the campaign is to wear rainbow laces as a way to positively promote LGBTQ+ inclusion within sport. On their webpage, they have a great number of resources which could be useful for your club
  • Kick It Out – focused on fighting discrimination in football, this organisation has a wide range of useful resources designed specifically for clubs which can be used in a motorsport context including LGBTQ+ guidance

In June 2023, Motorsport UK sat down with some members of the LGBTQ+ community within motorsport to talk about their experiences and discuss how clubs can be more inclusive of their members.
