How to play your part this Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport week
The part a parent and carer plays in their child’s sport can have a big impact on their child’s wellbeing and how they feel about sport, even more so in the competitive world of motorsport, from Karting right up to Rally and Circuit.
This year’s Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport Campaign runs 6 to 12 October 2025 and we’re asking sports parents to play their part and talk to their children about how they can bring out their best through positive actions and support.
Everyone involved in Motorsport has a part to play in supporting the enjoyment and safety of its participants. Motorsport UK is committed to the ongoing development and provision of policies, best practice guidance and central support towards safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk.
Here’s how you can play your part…
Listen to your child: Listen to any concerns that children may have around taking part in motorsport and be sure to keep these in mind when they are competing. Some children love loud cheers of encouragement, while others prefer a quieter show of support like a hand signal or a smile.
Keep motorsport fun: Make children feel good by praising their efforts and progress. Help them cope with difficult situations and disappointments with encouragement and constructive feedback.
Race with Respect: Everyone races under Motorsport UK’s respect code, so compete with respect, integrity, fair play, self-control and good manners.
See something, say something: If you see behaviours against Race with Respect, call it out. If you have any concerns about your child, or another child involved in motorsport, raise these issues with Club Safeguarding Officer or directly with Motorsport UK Safeguarding Team.
What you do and what you say will make a difference to how your child feels, but it also makes a difference to how safe they are in motorsport.
