Mentier currently races for Dan Holland Racing, and will join the new event, part of the FIA’s Global Karting Plan, which aims to create more accessible, high-quality international karting opportunities for emerging talent around the world.

Motorsport UK caught up with Lizzy prior to the event, to find out more about her own karting journey and what this opportunity means for her…

How did you get into karting?

“My Dad used to mechanic for world superbikes, he was away all over the world for weeks at a time so I thought, when he comes back, what could we do to have some time together? We went hire karting outside for a bit of fun, and I fell in love with it from there. I asked for a kart for Christmas and managed to get one!”

How has your motorsport journey been so far?

“It’s been quite challenging… it’s definitely been a bumpy road to get to where we are now, it’s not an easy road by any means. It’s been fun, it’s been exciting, many opportunities have come my way, and overall, it’s been positive.”

Have you seen more women get into motorsport and karting in particular?

“Definitely, there’s lots of different up and coming girls at the moment, different age ranges, and there’s a new pathway for women to get into karting.”

What advice would you have for women looking to participate in motorsport, if they are not sure where to start?

“I would say just go for it! It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, karting is one of the best pathways for motorsport… just go for it!”

What challenges are you expecting to face in Malaysia?

“Definitely the heat! While also learning a new track under different conditions in a new country.”

Are you looking forward to racing in the OK Category?

“Definitely! I’m really looking forward to it.”
