FIA Motorsport Games opening ceremony marks start of Team UK campaign

Christopher Froggatt led Team UK into the Opening Ceremony of the 2022 FIA Motorsport Games as the event was officially opened in Marseille, France tonight [26 October].  

The 72 participating nations gathered at the Mucem in Marseille’s picturesque port, where Robert Reid, Vice-President of the FIA for Sport, formally declared the 2022 Games open. 

All of the 463 drivers were welcomed at the Opening Ceremony’s Parade of Nations. GT driver Froggatt carried the British flag, leading out Team UK’s 17 competitors – spread across 10 disciplines at the event. 

“Tonight, was an absolutely fantastic experience, for myself and the whole team,” reflected Froggatt after the ceremony. 

“It’s a real privilege to lead Team UK at the FIA Motorsport Games, and tonight, seeing all the different nations come together, it’s definitely taken that excitement up another notch. 

“I can’t wait to get out and start competing.”

The Games marks a global celebration of motorsport and will see nation field teams across 17 disciplines, including circuit racing, karting, drifting, rallying and more. Motorsport UK will be represented by Team UK across ten disciplines. Entries include: 

GT – Christopher Froggatt (Team Captain)  

Touring Car – Chris Smiley  

Drifting – Martin Richards 

Historic Rally – Tim and Steve Jones  

Rally2 – Oliver Mellors and Ian Windress  

Auto Slalom – Laura Christmas and Mark King 

Karting Endurance – Titan Motorsport  

Esports – James Baldwin ️ 

Senior Crosscar – Dan Rooke  

Junior Crosscar – Corey Padgett
