From rallying and hill climbs to single-seater and touring car battles, here’s an insight into some of this weekend’s motorsport events taking place throughout the UK and overseas.

Closer to home…

British Rally Championship – Round 3 at Grampian Forest Rally

The British Rally Championship is back after a month since the last round at Builth Wells. An overall win for double BRC champion Matt Edwards and Darren Garrod secured the top spot in the championship standings.

But with none of the front-running BRC contenders sampling the popular gravel stages before, will round 3 unearth more unpredictability, or can the number one seed return fresh from round 2 victory in his Pirelli-shod Volkswagen Polo GTi to stay top of the leaderboard? British Touring Car Championship – Round 5 at Knockhill

It’s round 5 of the British Touring Car Championship, which brings changes the grid with it. Earlier this week, news came in that four-time Renault Clio Cup winner Paul Rivett will step in for Andy Neate, who is recovering from COVID-19. In response to obtaining the seat, Rivett commented:

“I can’t wait to get into such a fantastic car with such a fantastic team. After my first experience in a BTCC car last year I have been waiting to get back out in a touring car ever since. While it is a great opportunity for me, I really hope that Andy is back to full fitness soon. I would just like to say a massive thank you to Motorbase and Wayne Eason for making this possible. Dreams can come true.”

F4 British Championship certified by FIA – Rounds 13, 14 & 15 at Knockhill

In addition to the BTCC crew, the Formula 4 teams and drivers will be heading to Knockhill to compete in the next three events in the Championship. James Hedley occupies the top spot in the driver standings and is 24-points clear of his main competitor Matthew Rees. Hedley’s advantage grew after winning one of the three races at the last round at Oulton Park, which also played host to McKenzy Cresswell’s maiden victory in the series and in single-seaters.

GB3 Championship – Rounds 16, 17 & 18 at Silverstone

It’s a back-to-back race weekend for the GB3 Championship who return to the home of British Motor Racing. It was a great round for British driver Oliver Bearman who successfully claimed his first championship victory last time out at Snetterton. Sebastian Alvarez and Roman Bilinski claimed the following two victories.

The last race standings benefited Zak O’Sullivan’s top position in the driver championship. The Brit maintained his solid lead against second-place sitter and fellow teammate Christian Mansell by a staggering 99 points!

British Hill Climb Championship – Rounds 21 & 22 at Shelsley Walsh

The British Hill Climb Championship is back after their last round at Wiscombe Park at the start of the month, where Wallace Menzies continued to impress after winning the first run off of the weekend, closely followed by Sean Gould. The second run off mirrored the previous results, with Wallace Menzies just a couple seconds off the pace compared to his first race result.

Scottish Rally Championship – Grampian Forest Rally

This weekend is the third race in the 2021 Scottish Rally Championship calendar, with drivers making the journey to the central rally base, Milton of Crathes. The course is a culmination of the Durris, Fetteresso and Drumtochty forests which will present a variety of tough challenges to the rally drivers.

After COVID-19 caused the cancellation of the earlier rallies this year, the Scottish Rally Championship saw an influx of entries when motorsport restarted. And with nearly double the number of entries from previous years, there will be plenty of gripping driving across the course.

Overseas…

2021 BMW i Berlin E-Prix Presented by CBMM Niobium

It’s the final race weekend of season 7 and for the seventh consecutive year, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship returns to Berlin. With the top six drivers separated by just 17-points, who will be the best on energy at this historic Tempelhof Airport street circuit and can Sam Bird recover from a disappointing home E-Prix or could former teammate Robin Frijns become the first Formula E driver to win the Championship without winning a race?

Live action from the 2021 BMW i Berlin E-Prix presented by CBMM Niobium will be broadcast on Eurosport 2, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website at 13.00 BST on Saturday 14 August and free to watch on terrestrial television on BBC Two at 14.00 BST Sunday 15 August.

WRC Renties Ypres Rally Belgium

As well as the UK rally rounds, the FIA World Rally Championship will be taking place in Belgium this weekend for the Renties Ypres Rally. And Motorsport UK Academy Team UK co-driver Keaton Williams stepping in for Daniel Barritt who’s recovering from a neck and back injury.

The course brings with it a plethora of demanding conditions, with narrow asphalt farm lanes and tight corners, as well as the incorporation of slippery surfaces with mud and debris. You can watch all the action live on the WRC+ live stream, as well as BT Sport.
