Jamie Chadwick dominates W Series on home soil
Runaway W Series championship leader Jamie Chadwick scored a lights-to-flag victory on home soil at Silverstone.
Chadwick (Jenner Racing) stormed clear of the pack at the start, quickly amassing a lead that would extend to some six seconds over second-placed Emma Kimilainen (Puma).
The Finn, however, came under late-race pressure for the runner up spot after Abbi Pulling (Racing X) closed in, gradually reducing the arrears until the pair ran almost nose-to-tail heading onto the penultimate lap.
Kimilainen survived a dart to the inside from Pulling at Stowe by hanging tough around the outside. Pulling again tried to be last of the late brakers into the Club chicane, but this time it ended in contact, with Kimilainen’s car pitched into a half-spin.
Pulling redressed the change of position on the final lap, but their dramas allowed Chadwick to amass a near 20-second margin of victory at the chequered flag, making it four wins from four so far for the Brit in 2022, her championship lead now 47 points over Pulling.
Fabienne Wohlwend (CortDAO) came close to deposing Pulling of the final spot on the podium, the latter nursing damage from the contact with Kimilainen, but fell short by just under half a second. Beitske Visser (Sirin) rounded out the top five.
Jessica Hawkins, Abbie Eaton and Sarah Moore all marked their home races with points in sixth, seventh and tenth respectively. Alice Powell started third, but stalled ahead of the formation lap and, despite passing cars to re-take her grid slot, she was deemed to be out of position at the start and handed a drive-through penalty. She finished 14th.
W Series returns to action at Circuit Paul Ricard, France on 23 July.
