Trevor Moffatt won his maiden Motorsport UK British Car Trial Championship at the Golden Springs event last weekend, taking his third bonus point win of the shortened season. Moffatt drove cleanly all day to win the class by seventeen points and with it, his first domestic title. Simon Harris was his closest challenger overall, from the front-wheel-drive class after a good first two rounds gaining a seven point advantage over Rupert North, and Dick Glossop – who took his second class win of the year in the rear-wheel-drive class.

Moffatt led the new car class all day, opening out the lead over Gary Morris who in turn had a fantastic day to win the Golden Springs Trophy for highest placed Woolbridge member. Morris had a similar margin over the Ford KA of Tim Beard, who finished eighth overall.

The front-wheel-drive class saw club drivers father and son Tim and Charlie Dovey dominate early on in their Renault Clio, but a failed gearbox at lunch stopped a big upset, leaving Harris to quietly secure his second class win of the year over a rejuvenated Rupert North. The previous round winner Garry Preston started slowly and couldn’t close on the leading duo in seventh overall. Peter Hilleard once again had a quiet day achieving a great fourth in a class of sixteen in his debut season unusually using a diesel 106.

Mark Hoppe and Glossop spent the morning battling for every point, but the afternoon saw Glossop take the initiative, and 2019 Champion Hoppe slipped back – loosing his British title in the process.
