Motorsport UK Academy performance coach and Team UK driver to contest Petit Le Mans

Tuesday 02 November 2021

United Autosports has confirmed Motorsport UK Academy coach Andy Meyrick and Team UK driver Tom Gamble as LMP3 teammates for this month’s Motul Petit Le Mans.

Andy will return to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship paddock after last racing in the States in 2016. He has been racing for United Autosports since the start of the 2020 season. Last year, Tom also joined the team, winning the European Le Mans Series LMP3 Championship before moving across to LMP2 class. Tom will return to LMP3 with the Petit Le Mans event marking his debut in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The Motorsport UK Academy athletes will be racing the #2 Ligier JS P320 alongside Niklas Kruetten.

Andy Meyrick said: “I’m really excited to be racing at Petit Le Mans in a couple of weeks for United Autosports and delighted to be driving with Team UK driver Tom Gamble. We’ve driven in the same team for the last couple of seasons but never in the same car before. Tom is undoubtedly one of the most exciting, young British talents that we have got and having worked with him as his Academy Performance Manager, I’m now excited to be his teammate.”

Tom Gamble said: “I’m really excited to be racing at Petit Le Mans! It’s my first time going to America and my first time racing there. It’s a huge race and has a massive following in America, so thanks to United Autosports for giving me this opportunity.

“Teaming up with Andy, who has been a senior to me for the last few years with the BRDC Superstars and the Motorsport UK Academy as my performance manager, is going to be cool as is working alongside him. Our line-up is solid, and our main aim for the race is to try and win it! It’s a long race, and a lot can happen, but I’m very confident that we can challenge for the win, and we will see how it pans out!”

Watch Andy and Tom in action on 11-13 November for the final round of the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Road Atlanta for the Motul Petit Le Mans.
