Team GB in Portugal for 2021 Hillclimb Masters
This weekend, the top British Hillclimb drivers will take on the best in Europe at the FIA Hillclimb Masters in Braga, Portugal (8-10 October). The clash of champions and nations is back, bringing together the winners of national championships after the pandemic restrictions delayed last year’s event.
The inaugural event in 2014 aimed to bring together the top Hillclimbers across Europe at the end of the season. And after attracting over 150 drivers from 22 countries, biannual events followed at Sternberk (Czech Republic) and Gubbio (Italy).
Previous Masters events have seen some impressive performances from Team GB, with some of the quickest drivers in the British Hillclimb Championship finishing well inside the top ten. This year Team GB Captain Tim Wilson will lead a team of 17 drivers, including the highest placed Under 25 Hillclimber Tom Weaver in his Van Diemen RF91 and Top Lady Olivia Cooper in her Force Suzuki.
Joining Tom and Olivia are Wallace Menzies, Alex Summers, Sean Gould, Trevor Willis, David Uren, Paul Haimes, David Warburton, John Pick, James Kerr, Justin Andrews, Gavin Neate, Simon Jenks, Damien Bradley, Lee Griffiths and Matthew Ryder.
The FIA Hillclimb Masters has two classifications: an individual classification where the winners will receive gold, silver or bronze medals, and a Nations Cup, which considers a regularity index rather than pure speed.
Everyone at Motorsport UK would like to wish Team GB good luck in Portugal this weekend.
