Ukrainian livery dazzles on the hills; Donate to Motorsport UK’s Ukraine fundraiser

Friday 24 March 2023

Since the launch of Motorsport UK’s Ukraine fundraising campaign, community members have shown their support through donation of funds or actively supporting initiatives.

To date the campaign has raised over £40,000 and donations can be made here – https://www.gofundme.com/motorsportuk. Motorsport UK will conclude the fundraising campaign on 14 April 2023 and will use the funds raised to purchase an armoured ambulance and medical supplies before working on logistics to deliver it to Ukraine.

Motorsport UK licence holder and hillclimb competitor, Christopher Wigdor, is one of many community members who has shown his support to the Federation Automobile d’Ukraine (FAU), the Ukrainian motorsport community and the Ukrainian people.

For the 2022 season Wigdor, who is part Ukrainian, swapped the livery of his 1967 Mallock Mk 6B/8 in period 1600cc Formula 2 trim to Ukraine’s national colours. The hillclimb competitor showcased his livery, and skills – winning his clubs racing car class – on the hills at Gurston Down, Loton Park, Shelsley Walsh and Prescott.

Sharing his story with Motorsport UK, Wigdor commented, “My grandmother’s family was from Odessa, from which they had been forced to flee when the Russians first invaded Ukraine, over 100 years ago.

“When Russia invaded Ukraine this time, I wanted to do my bit if I could. I knew that it would be important to keep the various appeals for support and fundraising prominent and in the public consciousness as time went by, which is why I had my 1967 Formula 2 Mallock reliveried in Ukraine’s national colours at the beginning of the season last year.

“When Motorsport UK launched its appeal to fundraise for an armoured ambulance, I got in touch and offered to help in any way that I could.  During last year’s Fassi Classic Speed Championship, the car generated a lot of interest and support both from competitors and spectators.

“And on those occasions that Ukrainian refugees were among the spectators, you simply would not believe how important the visual message on my car was for them.  It made me feel as if I was competing on behalf of the FAU.”

Wigdor has committed to continuing with his Ukraine livery in 2023 and has been actively promoting the fundraising initiative. To show your support, click HERE to donate.

About Motorsport UK’s Ukraine Fundraiser

In support and solidarity, Motorsport UK launched a fundraising campaign in 2022 and to date has raised over £40,000.

Motorsport UK has consulted with members of the community who are supporting the delivery of vehicles and aid to Ukraine. In order to deliver an armoured ambulance with medical supplies to Ukraine, Motorsport UK is inviting the community to help the campaign break through the £50,000 mark.

The fundraising campaign will conclude on 14 April 2023 and Motorsport UK will then use the funds raised to purchase the armoured ambulance and medical supplies before working on logistics to deliver it to Ukraine.

Motorsport UK Clubs and Members are invited to donate to the campaign HERE.

Motorsport UK would like to hear from any clubs or members who have already been engaged in fundraising or, have been providing supplies or support to Ukraine and, particularly those who would be interested in assisting with the procurement & logistics to send the armoured ambulance to Ukraine later this year.
