Up To Speed: 26-27 February

Friday 25 February 2022

This weekend sees the FIA World Rally Championship’s triumphant return to Rally Sweden and a UK first for Sevenoaks and District Motor Club.

The WRC returns to Rally Sweden…

This weekend marks the World Rally Championship’s return to the frozen forests of the Sweden with the new hybrid era.

Never before has Rally Sweden journeyed so close to the Arctic Circle, with temperatures plunging to -20°C in the host city of Umeå this week.

After a year’s absence due to the pandemic, the new-look Rally Sweden offers the perfect conditions for the WRC’s only pure winter fixture as the world’s best drivers take on icy, snow-covered roads.

Round two of the WRC season marks an exciting time for the younger generation of rally drivers as for the first time since 2006, a WRC round will start without Sebastien Loeb or Sebastien Ogier.

Full coverage of Rally Sweden is available on WRC+ All Live.

Formula 1 Pre-Season Test

Britain’s Lando Norris topped the leader board in the opening day of the F1 pre-season test in Barcelona this week. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has claimed the fastest lap overall, with the final day of testing now underway. Lewis Hamilton racked up the 5th fastest lap on day three, with team-mate George Russell right behind in sixth.

Pre-season testing in Barcelona ends on 25th February.

Electrifying Autosolo

This Sunday, the UK’s biggest entry of electrified vehicles will take on Sevenoaks and District Motor Club’s Brands Hatch Autosolo. Most of the EVs that are competing in this event have been upgraded with Tevo Solutions to improve the car’s steering, handling, and braking and still allowing them to enter as a Standard EV.

Sevenoaks and District Motor Club is organising the event. Chris Judge, the Club Chairman, says: “Sevenoaks and District Motor Club have always tried to be innovative and forward-thinking, so the inclusion of standard electric cars is inevitable for club motorsport, and we believe an Autosolo should be the ideal introduction for these vehicles.”

This event is a non-spectator event, however be sure to follow on the Sevenoaks and District Motor Club Facebook page for updates on the event and photos during the day.
