Up to Speed: 4 – 5 June

Saturday 04 June 2022

With circuit racing largely taking a pause, this weekend our spotlight turns to focus on a number of speed and rally events, including those you can contest using your own road car!

Let’s get you ‘Up to Speed’, Platinum Jubilee style:

Around the Clubs

The Aston Martin Owners Club will be running a Surrey drive Touring Assembly, in addition to hillclimb events for the Classic & Vintage MRC Of Jersey and BARC at Westmount and Harewood respectively. The Yorkshire Wolds Motor Cub are running the 2nd Rallye East Yorkshire Targa over the bank holiday weekend.

British Rallycross Championship – Mondello Park

The British Rallycross Championship is set for an exciting weekend ahead as it heads to Mondello Park for the first time since 2017 alongside the Irish Rallycross Championship.

To add to the excitement, former Motorsport UK Champion Christopher Evans will be returning to action for the double header in Ireland. Evans was crowned champion in 2006 in his Opel Astra and will now be making a return to the championship in a Citroen C4.

Motorsport UK Academy athlete Patrick O’Donovan will be looking to secure more points this weekend to move him further on in the lead of the championship after a stellar performance at Pembrey Circuit in South Wales.

British Hillclimb Championship – Shelsley Walsh

This weekend marks the first of two trips in 2022 for the British Hillclimb Championship to the oldest motorsport venue still in its original configuration – Shelsley Walsh.

Exactly 1000 yards from start to finish and only 12 feet wide in some places, this short, sharp circuit is a crowd-pleaser, and a real test of a drivers concentration, skill and agility. Among the entries are defending champion Wallace Menzies in his Gould GR59-M and current points leader Alex Summers.
