Case study: ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA
Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series mandates the use of Carless’ Hiperflo® R20 performance fuel across all of the category’s Tatuus T-421 cars. This is for a three-year period and commenced with the 2022 season.
About the fuel
The fuel itself contains a total of 20% renewable components, comprising 15% second-generation ethanol content and 5% of renewable hydrocarbons. This allows for an up to 18% reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases when compared to current pump fuel, lowering the subsequent impact on the environment.
As well as helping to reduce the championship’s carbon footprint, the mandating of fuels also helps feed into the series’ world-renowned equalisation programme, led by the scrutineering team and Neil Brown Engineering, to ensure parity of performance across all competitors in a ‘driver talent-led’ formula.
What it means
Motorsport UK has an ambitious environmental sustainability strategy to take action to tackle climate change and preserve the future of our sport. Sustainable fuels sit at the heart of our vision for an eclectic future that revolves around multiple propulsion technologies.
The partnership with Carless is a natural fit for ROKiT British F4. Carless’ fuels offer the necessary performance for a championship at this level and the reduced environmental impact is proven. That is why Motorsport UK take the adoption of these specific fuels so seriously.

Adrian Stuart, Sales Executive for Performance Fuels UK at Carless, spoke to Motorsport UK about the introduction of sustainable fuels into the championship…
“We are delighted to have signed a multi-year contract with Motorsport UK to supply our renewable control fuel, Hiperflo® R20 to the ROKiT British F4 championship.
“As the championship heads into a new era with the Tatuus chassis and Abarth engine, we are proud to be supporting the championship with the introduction of a sustainable racing fuel.
“As the world moves to decarbonise the transportation sector, the introduction of Hiperflo® R20 is an important step to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to a traditional fuel. We believe that, along with electrification, renewable and sustainable fuels will play an integral part in this movement for road as well as motorsport vehicles.”
