Why are most of the championship rounds and the Grand Prix single day events?

In a bid to keep costs to a minimum for participants, the decision was taken to run single day events with the exception of Anglesey.

2020 has been a challenging year and under the current conditions it seemed right to reduce the need of multiple day meetings.

Why are there only three championship events?

In the current circumstances, it is hoped that having a British Championship with three events will be attractive to those who may not be a position to commit to a full-season championship.

We also acknowledge the Assen event in Holland in August, and have avoided any date that month – due to its popularity and the support it gets from UK competitors.

What will the championship registration and entry fees be?

It was important that as soon as Motorsport UK took the decision for the championship and Grand Prix to be run largely in-house that dates were secured with the race meeting organisers, who were very close to finalising their 2021 calendars.

Hire charges differ between venues, however, Motorsport UK is grateful to the BRSCC for agreeing a fixed fee per meeting . Those calculations will include charges such as event infrastructure, medical cover, timing etc.

Taking this into consideration, together with championship infrastructure needed, the individual meeting entry fee will be £345 for each championship event. The same will apply for the Grand Prix.

The Championship registration fee will be £50 per driver.

What categories will be run?

Division 1, F450 National, F250 National and F125 Open.

What will the meeting format be?

The track time secured for the meetings will be as follows:

2 x 10-minute timed qualifying sessions in addition to 3 x 12-minute races.

Will the grids be mixed?

With only three races, the grids will be mixed.  The actual detail is currently being considered and will be set out in the championship regulations which will be available ahead of registrations opening.

A variety of options need to be considered and account for the varying number of entries.

Will the event entries need to be capped?

Should we be in the fortunate position to receive championship entries over and above the calculated maximum capacity for the venue, we have been assured that we can purchase more track time and add a further race.

For the Grand Prix at Donington Park, which will use the GP circuit. The maximum grid is 60 and having considered the format for the meeting, we have decided to cap entries at 60, thereby providing all drivers with:

• 10-minute practice
• 10-minute timed qualifying
• 2 x 12-minute heats and
• a Final

Will there be Friday testing available?

We are assured that the venues will have Friday testing and you will need to contact the respective venues with the exception of Mallory Park, where contact should be made to the BRSCC.

Why has there been no request for driver input into the proposed calendar?

Motorsport UK had a limited timeframe within which to search for suitable and available circuits.  There were many dates that Motorsport UK had to try to avoid and were very grateful to the British Superkart Racing Club for providing a draft 2021 calendar across the Superkart community.  For 2021 there simply wasn’t the time to seek the views of the competitors in this instance.

However, looking forward, it is indeed Motorsport UK’s objective to request feedback from the competitors and we will be undertaking regular surveys with registered drivers and the Long Circuit Working Group.  During 2020 Motorsport UK held meetings for the Gearbox Working Group, however, this Group will now be separated between long and short circuit.

What’s next?

A new website is currently being designed and will incorporate the championship and event registration platform.

This website will also be the shop window for Superkarting in the UK and will carry the history of UK long circuit karting.  To help build and grow the website we would welcome input from the whole of the Superkarting community.

When will entries be open?

We are working to have the new website up and running by the end of January 2021.  As entries will be via the website, we will not be able to open registrations and entries until then.
