Get up to speed this weekend: 20 – 22 August 2021

Friday 20 August 2021

Welcome to this week’s Up to Speed, where we look ahead to some of the motorsport action taking place throughout the UK this weekend.

Northern Ireland Rally Championship – Round 3 at Loughgall Stages

Motorsport returns to Loughgall Country Park on Saturday for round 3 of the N.I Rally Championship battle. This event marks a significant moment in the 2021 Championship, with the return of spectators for the first time since March last year

It will also be the first time that the rally has hosted a round of the championship. For many of the title contenders, it will be their inaugural visit to the potentially tricky venue. The tree-lined stages can often be slippery and are likely to favour those who are fast and precise.

At the last round, Desi and Mark Henry won in their Hyundai i20 R5, which has secured the drivers a number two start at the Loughgall Stages. Meanwhile, championship leaders Jonny Greer and Kirsty Riddick are at risk with only two points distancing them from runner-up Stephen Wright and co-driver Liam Moynihan.

With the championship so close, the spectators are guaranteed an action-packed rally weekend, and you can follow the action here.

The British Motor Show – Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre

The British Motor Show has been resurrected and has a new Farnborough home, where Motorsport UK are exhibiting during the weekend. There’s live action galore, including Autosolos, car football and the Motorsport UK parade, plus plenty more displays for all automotive enthusiasts to enjoy.

Over at the Motorsport UK stand next to the live-action arena, we have represented the broad spectrum of motorsport. Motorsport UK Academy driver Joe Dalgarno has brought his MG ZR and Monster Energy Athlete Tessa Whittock joins us with her Nissan Skyline. Alongside the cars on show, the Motorsport UK team are on hand to provide insight into the various pathways into the sport, from competing to volunteering.
