UK rep Henry Joslyn concludes his FIA Karting Academy Trophy campaign

Thursday 08 September 2022

UK representative Henry Joslyn, selected by Motorsport UK Academy in March this year, wrapped up his FIA Karting Academy Trophy Championship campaign last weekend at the final round of the season in Le Mans, France.

Despite having never raced at Le Mans previously, Joslyn’s performances showcased his overall talent; in particular his drive from P9 to victory in Heat 2, which was also his first ever OKJ race in the wet.

Solid finishes in the other heats set him up nicely for the final, where he started in P7, but an incident during the race meant he ultimately finished P15 overall.

Over the course of the weekend, Joslyn was supported by previous world champion Danny Kierle as his mechanic and driver coach, who provided essential mentoring and guidance.

Joslyn’s involvement in the Wera Tools British Kart Championships and European Series alongside the FIA competition affected his ability to test at some circuits, but he relished the challenge. His performance earlier in the year during Round 1 at Genk, Belgium, where he climbed 20 places in the final to finish eighth, was one of the highlights of his campaign.

Katie Baldwin, Motorsport UK Competitors Pathway Manager, commented: “Henry was an excellent ambassador for Motorsport UK, and he approached the Championship with professionalism and maturity. He picked himself up after each challenge and dealt well with the pressures of performing on the international stage representing his national governing body.”

Joslyn added: “I was really proud to represent the UK at the Academy this year against 54 other drivers. It was challenging to race a different class with little testing, but we had some great results, raced at some fantastic circuits, and I was lucky to be guided by some brilliant drivers including Ollie Bearman and Danny Kierle. Thanks to Motorsport UK for the opportunity.”
