Metro 6R4 Anniversary Celebrated at Rallyday 2019

WRC star Craig Breen will be driving his own MG Metro 6R4 at Rallyday 2019, with Prodrive also bringing its own example of this iconic hyper-hatch for Jimmy McRae to pilot., the national club dedicated to the much-loved rally car, will also have a large presence at the event, in the form of a stand where various examples of this beefed-up Group B Metro will help to celebrate the car’s 35th anniversary in style.

Vehicles already confirmed for’s stand include Nicky Lindon’s prototype mock-up example (one of the first ever made), as well as Jim Leask’s ex-Tony Pond works machine with all manner of history under its belt.

Besides the 6R4 celebration, Ian Gwynne’s BGMSport firm will bring 21 cars belonging to various customers, with Rally Replay ensuring more genuine Italian WRC heritage than ever before. One of the highlights of the event will be a display of Ford machinery from through the generations, starting with an ex-Roger Clark Lotus Ford Cortina and ending with an ex-Colin McRae Ford Focus RS (WRC01).

The Ford display will progress from the Mk1 Cortina to another Roger Clark car: the Mk1 Escort, through to one of only five RS1700 Ts in existence, an RS200, a rare Group A Escort RS Turbo and the McRae Focus.

The focus isn’t just on Ford, though: Subaru’s well represented too, with Richard Burns’ Rally GB-winning car and the ‘WRC97’ Impreza McRae used to win the 1997 Safari Rally.

One of Petter Solberg’s favourite rally cars, the Impreza WRC2004 he used to win the 2005 Rally Sweden will be running on the day.

Rally Replay’s stunning collection includes a trio of Delta Integrales, an S4 and a Fiat 131 Abarth.

Rallyday – the country’s most-loved rallying event – descends on Wiltshire’s Castle Combe Circuit on 21 September, bringing with it some of the sport’s biggest stars and cars from over the years.
