Nominations open for prized 2023 Young Media Awards

Thursday 05 October 2023

This is your chance to win a career-launching accolade, plus a £1,000 reward.

Motorsport UK is pleased to open the 2023 Young Media Awards nomination process – coveted accolades much prized by budding journalists and photographers dreaming of a career trackside, whether as a professional reporter or snapper.

As the legendary Murray Walker once said when talking about a life in racing ‘those that can, do, those that can’t, talk about it – and that’s what I did!’ And, as Murray exemplified, there are plenty of great opportunities out there for those with a passion for motorsport.

First introduced in 2002 and open to all those aged 30 or under at the start of this year, Motorsport UK’s annual Young Journalist of the Year Award has long inspired, championed and rewarded the next generation of ambitious reporters working within the UK’s vibrant motorsport community. Similarly, the Young Photographer of the Year Award, sponsored by MPB – the world’s largest platform to buy, sell and trade used photography and videography equipment – has propelled hot young photographers to the forefront – and front pages – of the motorsport media industry.

The first two winners were Will Gray and Jakob Ebrey, and as hoped, both have forged seriously successful media careers within the sport. Gray has many notable achievements in the past 20 years ranging from covering F1 for the Daily Telegraph, Reuters and AFP to being the current Features Editor of Motorsport UK’s monthly Revolution online magazine.

Ebrey, too, has maximised his early recognition to set up the UK’s premier motorsport photographic agency, Jakob Ebrey Photography, and today travels the world with his cameras.

Further emphasising the importance of these coveted accolades, more recent winners include Kevin Turner, now the editor of illustrious Autosport, Ed Foster who many will have seen on their screens dapperly-dressed interviewing the stars at the recent Goodwood Revival and Jayson Fong, whose ever-excellent camera work adorns the cover of this month’s Classic & Sportscar magazine. All three are inspiring examples of what’s possible with a Motorsport UK Young Media Award on the CV.

An expert panel of judges – including several of these previous winners now at the cutting edge of the industry – will consider applications for both categories and select one winner from each category.

The winners will be honoured at the annual Motorsport UK Night of Champions, held at the Royal Automobile Club on Pall Mall in January 2024. Alongside the recognition of being acknowledged for their work, the recipients will receive a Motorsport UK trophy as well as a £1,000 prize to further their progress within motorsport media.
